The
most convenient hotels for international visitors are on the European
side of the Bosphorus, either south or north of the Golden Horn.
South of the Golden Horn means mosques, bazaars and
the cityˇ¦s most famous cultural highlights in and around Sultanahmet.
Traditionally the center for the city's budget and mid-range accommodation,
the area is increasingly moving upmarket. Most hotels in the area have
rooftop breakfast terraces for morning coffee surrounded by minarets
and unforgettable views across the Bosphorus.
North of the Golden Horn is the business, shopping
and entertainment district of Beyoglu. They may lack the views or romance
of the Sultanahmet hotels, but the range and number of hotels in this
area is far greater.
Most of the city's high-rise, high-end hotel
options are clustered around Harbiye, an area of green parkland just
north of what most people consider the city center (Taksim Square).
A short walk away from Istanbulˇ¦s most famous street (Istiklal Caddesi),
Harbiye is also conveniently situated for shopping trips to the fashionable
areas of Nisantasi and Tesvikiye.
